Twisted Focal Tutorial

1.  Select scrap clay.  I use bits left over from canes, sculptures, and other projects.  My only concern is that the colors complement each other.

2.  Push scraps together and roll into a rough football shape.

3.  Flatten slightly with a brayer.

4.  Refine shape if necessary.

5.  Holding the "points" of the focal bead in your fingertips, twist hands in opposing directions.

6.  If you wish, cover the outer edge of the focal bead with a strip of clay in a solid color.  You can skip this step, and (after baking) paint the edge with a foil pen.

7.  Bake per clay directions.  Sand and buff.  If you didn't cover the edge with clay, now is the time to paint with a foil pen.  After applying the edging, seal the edge.  I used Flecto Varathane for this.  And you're done!
